About Tissage Mahieu

For five generations, we have crafted woven wallcoverings to the highest standard, following an authentic path since 1889. Rooted in West Flanders, Belgium once the cradle of European flax we grew where blue flax flowers bloomed, stems dried in sunny fields, and fibres were spun into yarn. Our family name has long been established in this tradition. It began in Waregem in 1889, when Gustave Mahieu founded Tissage Mahieu.

Within six years, an atelier on Posterijstraat specialised in pure linen from finely spun yarn and produced extra‑wide sheets for fashion houses and luxurious curtains. Constant optimisation, including a steaming wing using modern methods, kept us at the forefront and firmly anchored in the region’s textile heritage. Between the World Wars, his son Gustaaf Mahieu sustained the craft and diversified into bed linen, curtains, and kitchen towels, also supplying nearby furniture makers. In 1950, the brothers Harry and John Mahieu advanced our mission and laid the essential foundation for today by introducing crafted linen laminated on a non‑woven base for premium wallcoverings.

By the end of the last century, Xavier Mahieu John’s son carried our passion well beyond Belgium. Our specialisation in exceptional wallcoverings in linen, cotton, polyester, and silk flourished among clients who prize beauty and quality. Experimenting with diverse yarns, he drew on accumulated know‑how to set the crafted standard for which we are sought worldwide. Today, Xavier is joined by his daughter Michèle Mahieu, who brings a fresh, contemporary eye to current and upcoming collections. She is supported by her sister Ann‑Gaëlle Mahieu and her husband Guillaume Delfosse, who strengthen production, distribution, and close relationships with clients and partners. Together, this dedicated fifth generation keeps Tissage Mahieu’s renowned name future‑ready.

About their products

Our collections serve individual and corporate clients, available by the running metre or in bulk, with diverse colour palettes so each design fits varied contexts. While we present and distribute crafted textile wallcoverings, we are equally drawn to the authentic processes behind them here’s a glimpse. We imagine what’s next while honouring our heritage.

Working in‑house, we explore moods and materials, guided by our surroundings and resources. Every creation is distinctive, with its own signature. The fabric is woven in Belgium on wide, shuttleless looms that keep filling yarns precisely horizontal. Closely monitored runs yield a dense construction with tightly twisted yarns heavier, more compact, and built for superior durability.

For comfort and performance, the woven surface is laminated to a non‑woven backing for high‑end residential and contract use, meeting rigorous standards for fire retardancy, durability, lightfastness, and cleanability. Watching each pleat set into place is a quiet reward as the piece nears completion. From raw flax fibre to a ready‑to‑go roll, every article passes strict quality checks.

We tailor and responsibly package each order, shipping directly in large runs or through trusted partners in Belgium and abroad, so individual customers can find what they need to furnish their ideal interiors.
